The System has been developed in accordance with the AS/NZS: 4801.2001 & AS: 14001 Australian Standards to ensure the organisation meets and exceeds WA legislative requirements under OSH Law, but also to ensure we align ourselves with the HSE best practice standards of our clients and customers. We are committed to implementing this system with the assistance from our professional OSH Consultants.

The Tonca Earthmoving business is committed to the health and safety of all our employees.

The Tonca Earthmoving management team is actively involved in the management and planning of Occupational Safety and Health.

We encourage our employees to be active in observing and recommending changes in the workplace to reduce exposure to any risks and hazards.

Tonca Earthmoving expect all our employees to accept responsibility for their actions, to report unsafe acts and working conditions, and behave in a manner that reflects safe work practices and standards.

If at any time illness or injury results in a disability to our employees, Tonca Earthmoving will manage the Injury Management process to facilitate their safe return to gainful and meaningful employment.

Occupational Safety Health and Environment

Tonca Earthmoving considers achieving the highest standards of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) performance a primary organisational objective. We place a strong emphasis on providing a safe working environment, managing risk and developing and maintaining safe work practices.

The Tonca Earthmoving Safety Program has been developed around an established strong preventative safety culture in which risks in the workplace are quickly identified and eliminated.

The Safety Management program meets the requirements of the AS/NZS: 4801.2001 standard, focusing on continuous and measurable improvement and communicating effectively with all stakeholders.

All staff and Contractors employed by Tonca Earthmoving are made fully aware of the company’s health and safety policies, including the adherence to our company Safety Management System. This is especially important to our personnel that work on-site with the possibility of mishaps or incidents occurring.

Tonca Earthmoving is committed to responsible environmental management in every activity undertaken.

The Tonca Earthmoving environmental management policy conforms to the AS:14000 standard, defining strategies for preventing environmental issues, complying with legislative requirements and codes of practice impacting on businesses operations.

Environmental policy

Tonca Earthmoving is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment in which our employees are not exposed to any hazards arising from long working hours or the use and abuse of alcohol or drugs.

All employees of Tonca Earthmoving are required to report for work in a fit condition, in order to perform their required duties in a safe, competent and efficient manner.

All Tonca Earthmoving employees are prohibited from working when under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or upon producing positive screening test results. If a positive test result is produced, the employee will not be permitted to re-enter the workplace until a negative test has been achieved.

During the employment induction process Tonca Earthmoving will actively promote the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace.

Tonca Earthmoving will take all practicable steps in the placement of employees to ensure the hours of work; shifts/rosters and workplace conditions do not create an unacceptable risk of fatigue.

Where possible, our employees will not work in excess of 12 hours per day.

Personal Protective Equipment Policy

Tonca Earthmoving acknowledges that the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) plays a small but significant role in helping to keep our employees safe from any risk that they may face during their employment.

Our employees will be advised to wear PPE where a risk assessment has established the need to control a hazard and no other form of hazard control can be practically used.

The wearing of personal protective equipment, where required, is mandatory for all employees and management.

Failure by employees and management to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment will be seen as a failure to perform duties adequately and disciplinary action will ensue.

To assist all employees Tonca Earthmoving will ensure appropriate signage indicating the identified hazard is displayed, and the appropriate personal protective equipment is worn.

It is also the policy of Tonca Earthmoving to ensure all employees know how to use the PPE needed to perform their duties.

All personal protective equipment is required to be stored and maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications. Employees are expected to actively assist management in this area.

If PPE becomes damaged at any time, or an employee is unsatisfied with its performance, the item is to be replaced.

Non Smoking Policy

Environmental tobacco smoke is considered a health risk and there is now sufficient evidence that passive smoking (that is, the breathing of residual smoke) increases the risk of lung cancer. Passive smoking is also dangerous for people with pre-existing heart or lung conditions and can trigger asthma attacks, cause chest infections, and other medical conditions.

Tonca Earthmoving as an employer has a duty under the relevant Workplace Health & Safety Acts, to provide and maintain a safe working environment and to protect the health of all employees from illness or injury arising from smoking in the workplace. To protect the health of all our employees from the ill effects of cigarette smoke at work, Tonca Earthmoving have adopted a policy of providing a smoke free workplace.

It is recognised that this initiative will provide a positive benefit to all Tonca Earthmoving employees. Every effort will be made to assist smokers to adapt to working conditions under the policy. It must be stressed, that breach of this policy will be dealt with in the same manner as a breach of any Occupational Safety and Health policy.

Tonca Earthmoving will make every endeavour to provide assistance in the form of reference to medical help or counselling if required.

It is our policy that no smoking will be allowed in any of our Company owned/occupied buildings or site areas, other than the designated smoking areas. Smoking is not allowed in any Company vehicle or plant.
